Participation of the working group of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan headed by the Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology Qurbonzoda Abdullo in the 26th

On the basis of the order of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon dated October 20, 2021 №29 / 10-331, the delegation of the working group headed by the Director of the Agency took part in the 26th conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP -26) in Glasgow.

The conference was attended by Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, Deputy Director of the State Investment Project "Water Resources Management in the Panj River Basin" Muzaffar Shodmonov, Head of the Meteorological Forecasting Department Sattor Saidov and Head of the International Relations Department Ruziev Komron.

It should be noted about the annual meetings of the member countries (COP) since 1995, where by 2021 the number of member States of the Conference of the Parties (COP) has reached 197. But this conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-26), held in Glasgow, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, was attended by delegates from 200 countries and about 120 heads of State, where all major countries chose the way to solve the problem of achieving carbon neutrality in 2050-2080.

The main objective of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-26):

  1. Consider joint efforts to combat global climate change;
  2. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030;
  3. Increase funding for the fight against climate change;
  4. Maintaining the temperature rise within 2°C since the beginning of the industrial period, maintain the temperature up to 1.5 °C.

Meetings of Qurbonzoda Abdullo, Director of the Agency of Hydrometeorology the Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, with a number of heads of organizations and representatives of the Conference of the Parties (COP-26) in Glasgow, Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

On November 8, 2021, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Abdullo Qurbonzoda met with Director of the Central Meteorological Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Khabibullayev at the Central Asian Pavilion in Glasgow, Great Britain. Qurbonzoda Abdullo discussed with his Uzbek counterpart issues in the field of meteorology, training and cooperation in the field of communications, where special attention was paid to increasing the number of specialists of the Agency for advanced training, as well as increasing the number of specialists for business trips to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On November 10, 2021, at the Central Asian Pavilion in Glasgow, Director of the Hydrometeorology Agency Abdullo Qurbonzoda met with Deputy Director of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Elena Manaenkova. During the meeting, issues of cooperation between the Agency for Hydrometeorology and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) were discussed, namely in strengthening cooperation in the field of climate change, water, glaciology and meteorology.

On the same day, at the Central Asian Pavilion in Glasgow, Director of the Hydrometeorology Agency Abdullo Qurbonzoda met with the Ambassador for Climate Change and Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland Jan Wahlberg. During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of strengthening cooperation in the field of meteorological projects between Finland and the Republic of Tajikistan, in particular, an agreement was reached to start Phase 3 in this sector as soon as possible.

It should be noted that during the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-26) Muzaffar Shodmonov presented the 1st UPDATED REPORT of Tajikistan for the biennium (1st BIENNIAL REPORT of TAJIKISTAN). Also, the National Strategy of Adaptation of the Republic of Tajikistan to climate change until 2030 was presented at the conference by Sattor Saidov.
