Report on the debris flow in the Yozgand jamoat of Sangvor district

July 15, 2019 Deputy Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology Abdualimov K.Q and Head of the Hydrology Department Homidov V together with specialists of Salini Impergilo's Company completed a working visit to the Sangvor area.

The purpose of the working trip with international partners was to analyze and study geophysical processes, including heavy rainfall. It should be noted that heavy rains were predicted on July 14 in mountainous areas. On the same day, heavy precipitations, such as hail and rain, were observed on the territory of the Jozgand Jamoat of the Sangvor district at an altitude of 3000-3500 meters, resulting in mudflow in the form of stones and silt from a height of 10-15 meters, 100 meters wide and demolishing the Dushanbe pedestrian bridge Sangvor caused material damage to this jamoat.

As a result, the mudslide blocked the Hingou River for 5-6 minutes, creating an artificial lake, 400 meters long, 100 meters wide and up to 17 meters deep. Then the water barrier was open and the water flowed in its own direction. Experts closely acquainted with the aforementioned work concluded that in July and August in most mountainous areas due to increased air temperature there will be glacial landslides. Experts having studied these places in the basins of the republic promptly notify the population about the onset of natural disasters.
