Workshop date and venue: 16 February 2002, conference-hall Kayon Workshop participants: policy makers, representatives from international organizations, scientists and Mass Media Objectives of the workshop: The workshop was arranged for the representatives from the national ministries, departments and administrations, which activity cause direct/indirect impacts on the atmosphere and climatic system. It is widely known that anthropogenic impact on climate is intensively growing causing adverse impacts on natural resources, national economy and human health. Therefore, planning of adaptation policy regarded as priority. Since climate change is the problem of global scale, specific attention is paid to participation of international organizations and diplomatic missions, which are regarded as principle partners in Tajikistan under the UN Framework Convention on climate change. More than twenty representatives from governmental, international, research organizations and institutes, universities and public administrations took part in the workshop. Main objectives of the workshop were to provide participants with information on preventive measures to mitigate climate change adverse impacts and planning adequate adaptation to “warm” conditions. In particular, a number of issues regarding finance and technical needs assessment as well as needs of the personnel training and identification of pilot projects for funding. Moreover, a structure of the National Action Plan of the Republic of Tajikistan for climate change mitigation was reviewed and approved. |
