“Development of renewable energy in rural areas of Tajikistan”

Objective of the project is to improve rural population conditions and provide ecologic and finance steady use of the renewable energy sources. Objective of the project PDF-A is to provide joint consultations, develop detailed project proposal for GEF consideration following all necessary requirements, identify finance sources and submit it completed to the GEF committee for further approval.

Key objectives of the project:

  • To enhance the capacity of the local authorities (Jamoats) and provide the rural population with public services;
  • To build capacity of the civil groups that are renamed as resource and propaganda centers of Jamoats (former Jamoats Development Centers) and identify local problems in development field, social reforms and civil consciousness mobilization;
  • To provide local enterprises’ development on the basis of Revolving Fund; this can be used in projects related with renewable energy sources development and ensure the project steadiness and compensation of the funds investment.

Regions of the project implementation activity: : Rasht Valley, Soghd and Khatlon regions

Expected outcomes of the project:

  • Increased access of country households, social institutes and inceptive business to reliable energy supply;
  • New opportunities for improvement of the rural population’s social and housing conditions;
  • Increased capacities of the local authorities and other key members in development of renewable energy sources and establishment of the funding mechanism, which will integrate the project practical outcomes into other communities;
  • Advanced legal and normative conception basis aimed at maintaining the project objectives; ;
  • Limited emissions of greenhouse gas and improved environment preservation through decrease of fire-wood consumption.

Expected outcomes of the project:

  • The project concept was developed by Climate change centre’s experts and submitted to the Executive Agency for consideration;
  • CEF and UNDP rendered finance deposit (PDF-A) for mid-term period project development;
  • The treaty was made up with International Consultant (Chief Technical Project Adviser) and National Experts for project document development;
  • The 1 International Consultant mission was held. During this mission there were meetings with main project partners and organizations interested in project funding;
  • The first social and economic manufacture assessment and renewable energy sources consumption final version was prepared by National Experts.
