Visit of the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Professor Petteri Taalas to the Agency for Hydrometeorology

June 6, within the framework of the Second International High-Level Conference dedicated to the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development. 2018-2028 “The Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Professor Petteri Taalas and other officials visited the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and its divisions. Professor Petteri Taalas was received by the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Sheralizoda B.A., Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology Qurbonzoda A.Kh. and employees of the meteorological agency in front of the meteorological agency building were welcomed.

During the visit, the Secretary General and a group of guests visited the Meteorological Center, Small Meteorological Studio, Automated Communication Center and other departments of the Agency and expressed satisfaction with the interest of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in meteorology and working conditions.

Then in the assembly hall of the Agency an extended meeting of the guests with the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sheralizoda BA, Director of the Agency for Meteorology Mr. Kurbonzoda A.H. and the staff of the Agency met with the Secretary General of the Meteorological Agency, Professor Petteri Taalas, and a delegation of guests, who expressed satisfaction with the meeting with the staff of the Agency for Meteorology and Equipping the Meteorological Service of Tajikistan.

The Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Professor Petteri Taalas, said: - It should be noted that the Republic of Tajikistan is vulnerable to climate change and adverse weather conditions. Currently, in the process of climate change of the Planet, this structure is one of the key structures, the activities of which are directly aimed at preventing the risk of natural disasters by providing warnings about the risk of natural disasters, meteorological and climatic forecasts. Yesterday we visited Lake Sarrez and the glaciers of the republic. Due to rising global temperatures, melting of Tajikistan's glaciers is also observed, which is also very worrying.

During the meeting, the Agency's specialists informed the guests about the working methods and technologies used, which were highly appreciated by the guest delegation.

At the end of the event, the guests were presented with souvenirs with a reflection of the history and culture of the Tajik nation. In this process, the Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Professor Petteri Taalas visited the observatories and meteorological stations and continues.
