The Hydrometeorology Agency held a meeting with an international expert on NAP and SAP screening for the cryosphere.

A meeting was held at the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan with Mariam Shotadze, an expert on environmental and social protection measures at the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty, as part of the GEF-UNDP-UNESCO regional cryosphere project.

The event was held in the format of consultations with key stakeholders of Tajikistan on the issues of strategic environmental and social screening of the Regional Strategic Action Program (SAP) and the National Action Plan (NAP) on the cryosphere for 2027-2035.

During the meeting, the methodology of strategic environmental and social screening, the results of the social and environmental screening procedure for pilot projects, as well as the results of strategic environmental and social screening of the Strategic Action Programme and the National Action Plan were presented.

The discussion focused on identified environmental and social risks, their levels, and proposed management measures. Participants exchanged opinions and proposals, emphasizing the importance of interagency collaboration, a scientific and practical approach, and regional cooperation in assessing high-mountain nival-glacial systems, sustainable development, and adaptation to climate change.

Representatives of relevant institutions and interested organizations participated in the meeting. Such consultations help strengthen professional dialogue, refine approaches to risk assessment, and increase the effectiveness of joint work in climate change adaptation, cryosphere monitoring, and water resource management.
