On 31 August 2026, the United Nations General Assembly, at the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan, adopted a resolution proclaiming 31 August, starting from 2027, as the International Day of Safe, Secure and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.
The adoption of this resolution represents a continuation of the consistent policy of the Republic of Tajikistan and the initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, in promoting the development of artificial intelligence, modern technologies, and their responsible use.
The choice of 31 August has historical significance, as on this day in 1955, a research proposal was submitted at Dartmouth College, which marked the beginning of the development of artificial intelligence as a field of scientific research.
The proclamation of this International Day provides a favourable foundation for strengthening global cooperation, sharing experience, and promoting the safe, secure, and responsible development of artificial intelligence.
This initiative represents an important contribution by the Republic of Tajikistan to shaping the international agenda on artificial intelligence and reflects the country’s active commitment to harnessing modern technologies for sustainable development and the well-being of humanity.
