On May 3, 2023, a scientific and theoretical conference was held at the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Executive Committee of the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan in the Sino region of Dushanbe on the topic “Tajikistan is the world-class initiator for the protection of glaciers”, during which was attended by representatives of ministries and departments of the republic.
In their speech, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan in Dushanbe Mirzozoda Ibragim Holmurod and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan in the Sino district of Dushanbe Faizullozoda Zarina Faizullo especially noted the initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan , Dear Emomali Rahmon for the protection and conservation of glaciers, which are the main source of clean and drinking water in the region.
Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology, in turn, emphasized the following: “The results of long-term observations of the Agency for Hydrometeorology show that under the influence of global warming in the territory of the republic, glaciers with an area of up to 0.1 km2 have completely thawed, and large glaciers have undergone serious damage. At the initiative of the Leader of the Nation, Respected Emomali Rahmon, the United Nations General Assembly, which adopted in its resolution, implements at the global level the initiatives of the year of clean water, the International Decade of Water Action for Life, the Year of International Water Cooperation and the International Decade of Water Action for Sustainable Development.
The leader of the nation, Dear Emomali Rahmon, in order to protect the main fresh water reserves, that is, glaciers and create a special fund for the study and conservation of glaciers, has repeatedly stressed and called on the world community to solve this problem. The creation of the International Glacier Protection Fund can unite the efforts of countries and international organizations in this important strategic sector and contribute to the protection of glaciers in mountainous regions, including in the Republic of Tajikistan.”
Qurbonov Nomovar - Candidate of Technical Sciences, Deputy Director of the Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan for Science and Education spoke on the topic "The role of the Republic of Tajikistan in promoting global climate problems", and Nazirzoda Kamoliddin, Deputy Head of the Center for Glaciology of the Agency for Hydrometeorology, report on the topic “Studying the problems of formation and protection of glaciers in Tajikistan in the context of climate change”.
At the end of the conference, discussions were held between representatives of relevant ministries and departments to welcome the 2025 International Year for the Protection of Glaciers, as well as the implementation of the fifth initiative of the Founder of the World and National Unity-Leader of the Nation President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and in the implementation of further plans.
