Consultative seminar on gender aspects in water resources management

On May 1, 2026, a consultative seminar titled “Gender Aspects in Water Resources Management and Glacier Monitoring in the Context of Climate Change” was held at the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. The event was organized within the framework of the project “Glacier Loss Management and Water Security Provision,” funded by the Japan Fund for Prosperity and Resilience for Asia and the Pacific (JFPR).

The seminar was actively attended by the leadership and staff of the Agency’s departments, centers, and divisions, who discussed key issues related to water resources management and glacier monitoring under climate change conditions. Special attention was given to the integration of gender aspects, the protection of vulnerable population groups, and strengthening the role of women in science, as well as in monitoring climate processes and glaciers.

During the presentations, specialists analyzed the results of the project implementation, the impact of climate change on vulnerable population groups, the role of women in glaciological research, as well as the effects of dust and haze on glacier melting processes.

The seminar highlighted the importance of integrating gender approaches into water resources management and glacier monitoring, and demonstrated that the active involvement of women and consideration of the needs of vulnerable groups can enhance the effectiveness of climate change adaptation measures and ensure water security.
