It is a matter of great honor for us that these days the Republic of Tajikistan is hosting a high—level event on the protection of water resources - a high-level International Conference on Glacier Conservation. This conference will be held on May 29-31, 2025 in Dushanbe, the capital of the Republic of Tajikistan, where representatives of foreign countries, reputable international and regional organizations, including international experts, politicians, scientists and representatives of civil society, will take part.
It should be recalled that the High—level International Conference on Glacier Conservation is being held within the framework of global initiatives on water and climate issues by the Founder of Peace and national unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. It should be particularly noted that on December 14, 2022, at its 77th meeting, the United Nations General Assembly, with the support of 153 Member States, unanimously adopted the fifth international initiative of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in the field of water and climate. According to this resolution, 2025 was declared the International Year of Glacier Conservation, and starting in 2025, March 21 will be celebrated annually as World Glacier Day.
The High—level International Conference on Glacier Conservation is not only a scientific and environmental event, but also an important political and humanitarian instrument contributing to the global consolidation of efforts to preserve glaciers and ensure a sustainable future for millions of people and ecosystems.
The main purpose of the conference is to draw the attention of the world community to the problem of glacier conservation, the impact of climate change and global warming on them.
