Meeting with the Head of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Professor Petri Talas

On October 21, 2025, on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Session of the World Meteorological Congress (Cg-Ext 2025), held in Geneva (Switzerland), the Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Dear Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, held an official meeting with the head of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Professor Petteri Taalas.

           During the official meeting with the head of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Professor Petteri Taalas, the key areas of the upcoming cooperation within the framework of the fourth phase of the Finnish-Tajik Meteorological project were discussed.

           The main focus was on building institutional and human resources in the field of meteorology and hydrology, as well as strengthening cooperation in the field of early warning systems for emergency hydrometeorological events. Both sides stressed the importance of integrating modern scientific and technical solutions into the process of operational and long-term forecasting of climate and weather risks.

           A special place in the dialogue was occupied by issues, including the introduction of innovative technologies in the field of monitoring and modeling of atmospheric processes, improving the effectiveness of national early warning systems through the adaptation of international practices and standards, the exchange of scientific and practical experience between specialists from the two countries, strengthening educational and research components in the field of climatology and hydrometeorology.

           Professor Taalas noted the significant progress made in the previous phases of the project and expressed confidence that the fourth phase of cooperation will be an important step towards creating a sustainable and scientifically based system for responding to climate threats in Central Asia.

           The parties confirmed their mutual interest in further expanding the partnership aimed at improving climate resilience and reducing vulnerability to risks related to climate change.
