On May 29 of the current year, a technical meeting on “Integrating Human Mobility into the Global Adaptation Goals” was held with the participation of representatives from relevant ministries and agencies, higher educational institutions, research institutes, and other development partners.
The event was organized and conducted at the initiative of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The main objective of the technical meeting was to discuss issues related to the impact of climate change on human migration, strengthening adaptive capacity, and implementing effective measures to reduce the vulnerability of communities under climate change conditions.
During the technical meeting, participants discussed important issues, including climate change adaptation, enhancing the socio-economic resilience of the population, strengthening institutional capacity, and developing local-level adaptation mechanisms. It was noted that amid the growing impact of climate-related factors such as droughts, water scarcity, natural disasters, and other climate-related phenomena, the issue of human migration is becoming one of the key topics on the international agenda. In this regard, particular importance is being placed on coordinating public policy and expanding interagency cooperation in the field of climate change adaptation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants emphasized the need to further strengthen cooperation, exchange experience, and implement joint measures aimed at increasing community resilience to climate change.
