On June 2–3 of the current year, representatives of the Xinjiang Meteorological Service of the People’s Republic of China paid a working visit to the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
As part of the visit, a meeting took place between the Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology, Qurbonzoda Abdullo Khabibullo, and the Deputy Director of the Xinjiang Meteorological Service of the PRC, Zhang Yongan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the “MAZU” early warning platform for various types of hazardous natural phenomena, with a particular focus on the use of artificial intelligence technologies for forecasting dust storms and dust-related events. They also discussed cooperation in the implementation and use of this system in the Republic of Tajikistan, the development of joint initiatives, and prospects for further collaboration.
The sides confirmed their readiness to expand cooperation in the monitoring and forecasting of hazardous hydrometeorological phenomena (such as floods and mudflows), technologies for forecasting adverse weather conditions (dust storms, heavy precipitation in the form of rain and snow, and strong winds), operational hydrometeorological services, as well as the application of numerical weather prediction models.
