Within the framework of the 64th session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (SB64) held in Bonn, a meeting took place between the Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, and the leadership of the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT), Dr. Henning Wuester, operating under the support of the UNFCCC.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to strengthening the transparency of climate policy, improving monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems for climate data, as well as the preparation of national reports within the framework of the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
Particular attention was paid to enhancing Tajikistan’s capacity in assessing climate actions, improving the quality of climate reporting, and using modern tools to track progress toward the achievement of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
The Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology, Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the field of climate transparency and expressed interest in further collaboration with Initiative for Climate Action Transparency to strengthen national systems for climate monitoring and reporting.
In turn, the ICAT leadership confirmed its readiness to continue providing expert and technical support to countries in implementing the requirements of the Enhanced Transparency Framework under the Paris Agreement.
The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and marked an important step in the development of cooperation between Tajikistan and international partners on climate reporting, climate change adaptation, and the implementation of climate commitments.
The parties agreed to prepare a joint project in anticipation of the upcoming 31st session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), which will take place in November 2026 in Antalya.
